E-commerce!

E-commerce has been a cup of tea that i haven't really tried yet. even though there are many benefits of shopping online, like not needing to leave your table, and you are also not limited to your own geographical boundary. however, as much as online shopping is really a lot more convenient and it broadens your reach of items, i feel that the limitations outweigh the benefits.

firstly, whatever you see on your computer screen might not be what you get in actual life. one good thing about physically shopping is that you can see, touch, feel, try, and sometimes even taste what you want to purchase. and this would be of great use because you would want to buy something that fits you, whether physically or character-cally. shopping online won't give you any of these luxuries. if you buy something and when it arrives after like a week of anticipation, and it doesn't fit, you'll just feel like you've physically flushed away your money.

secondly, shopping online might increase the chances of getting cheated, whether it being credit card fraud or just not getting the product. maybe i'm a be paranoid, but somehow i don't feel very secure about keying in credit card details online to an unknown person to pay for something.

however, i feel that in time to come, i would certainly buy stuff online because some stuff just aren't sold in singapore. and with greater protection and learning how to be careful online from Dr Choy's class, i would definitely try out online shopping!

very powerful!

social media has certainly taken the internet by storm. i still remember first signing up for friendster when i was in secondary school, and it was really the 'in-thing' to have an account and be able to write testimonials and share photos and see how you are connected to friend's friends and all that.

however, now with the advancement of social media like facebook, it has taken a whole new usage. not only can the same functions that be done like those on friendster, but now individuals or companies can put up advertisements that are suited and targeted to a specific audience. companies can create profile pages to allow for easy bookings or to see what the company is about. jobs can also be marketed, and it can also allow easy communication for job interviews.

before this phenomenon, all these were done the typical way of either advertising them on newspapers or magazines, or maybe through flyers.
the interest is definitely a tool with almost infinite posibilities and expansions!

com 125

THE INTERNET. Something that most of us use everyday for work, networking, or just leisure. this technology has certainly impacted our lives and the society in one way or another, and we focus too much on that aspect that we overlook the medium and how the internet actually started out.

at first, i thought this module 'COM 125:Introduction to Internet' would just be some module that would teach you how to use the internet. however, after the first week of lectures, i have gained considerable knowledge on this and have discovered new things about the internet. for one, i didn't really understand what it meant when i saw terms like Web 1.0 or Web 2.0, but have now come to understand what they represent. with the move now to Web 3.0, which is a more semantic way of the web and the web trying to understand each individual users, i believe that this will pave a way for greater things to come through the use of the World Wide Web!
